Marco Modica has got a PhD (XXV cycle) in Economics, Markets and Institutions at IMT Institute for Advanced Studies Lucca (Italy) in 2013. He has been visiting research scholar at the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs of Syracuse University, Syracuse, NY (US) and Newcastle University Business School (Newcastle upon Tyne, UK). He is involved in several joint projects with particular focus on the impact assessment of economic shocks (economic and financial crises) and environmental shocks (natural disasters; impact of undesirable facilities) on regional productive contexts and on real estate values. Currently, he is investigating the fields of Climate Change Economics and Policy and Spatial Resilience. His approach in these subjects involves using natural catastrophes as social experiments to explain the effects on the regional economic but also in order to identify the economic impact of such disasters. Many of his last works are the results of multidisciplinary collaboration with other sciences.
