Marco Frey has developed his academic career in multiple universities, teaching various management disciplines (business management, innovation, marketing, organization), although the field of research and teaching in which he is most specialized is sustainability management, developed in the field of environmental studies since the beginning of his academic career and progressively extended to corporate social responsibility, the efficient use of resources and the circular economy.
At the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna, his current university, he was called as full professor in 2002 precisely by virtue of these skills, to grow a research group (now a Laboratory) on sustainability issues, which today is composed of more than 35 researchers and 4 professors, within the Institute of Management that he directed for six years, until October 2017.
Shortly after arriving at the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna, he was asked to develop the institution social report, the first drawn up in 2002 by a university in Italy, which allowed him to understand, measure and enhance the contribution that an organization of this nature can provide to the society. He then resumed this experience in 2020, coordinating the drafting of the first sustainability report and the first gender budget, and becoming Vice-Rector for the Third Mission in 2021.
